This home addition/bathroom remodel project was the second round of remodeling for this San Jose family. Just a few years after completing their kitchen remodel with the Remodel West team, they were prepared to undergo a big change to their exisiting home in San Jose.
The initial goals for this project left a lot room for the design team at RemodelWest to be creative with the transformation. The homeowner’s requirements were to complete a bathroom remodel, possible expansion to the front of the home in order to convert it to a Master Suite and improvement to the front elevation of the home by addressing the entry.
RemodelWest designed and built an addition to the front of this home and updated the front of this home and entry way. Here we feature the design and construction of the bathroom remodel. The hall bathroom was completely relocated. With the addition to the front of the house to expand the bedroom size, our team borrowed space from that existing bedroom to create a new hall bathroom.
In addition to updating the look and functionality of this room, the Remodel West team planned for a universally designed bathroom allowing space for the potential use of a wheel chair. The vanity in this bathroom is at two levels with two different sinks. Another way to accommodate the potential use of a wheel chair in this bathroom was planning for a curbless shower application; a smooth walk into the shower. Increased width to the doors and entry ways in
this area also leave room for ease of access for a wheel chair.
The vanity and shelves were provided by Crystal Cabinets; cherry wood with a darker stain. Cabinet material was also used for the trim around the vanity mirror and shelves above the vanity and also above the bathtub. Underneath the lower sink you will also see a hidden shelf, this is a strategy to maximize the use of the space. The countertop material is a limestone and ties in nicely with the limestone tile used in the shower and surrounding the bathtub. The decor on the walls is a custom blend of glass tile. The glass tile and limestone tiles are also tied into the floor detail. The main floor and top of the shower walls is a gorgeous porcelain tile by Crossville.

Founder and Owner of Remodel West, a residential design and construction firm, originally established as Cupertino Kitchen Design in 1992. I have created a very progressive company with a high level of quality standards. Over the years, the company has built revenues to 8.5 Million and scaled operations as we rolled with the times. By re-branding the business in 2007 to Remodel West, we aimed to better align our name with the scope of work performed.
I am a Certified Graduate Remodeler through NAHB and Certified Green Building Professional through Build It Green and most recently Certified Renovator through the EPA which is now a federal requirement.
My primary goals are to design and build more eco-friendly projects, to do projects for those clients seeking high quality. My professional background stems from twenty-six years of hands on experience beginning in 1985 in cabinetry design and sales, and progressed to my involvement with a startup company from 1987-1991. In 1992, at age 26, I started Cupertino Kitchen Design/RemodelWest. My strengths are creating a vision for our company, planning, and empowering our employees to accomplish our goals. Sue and I have been married 26 years with three wonderful children, Jessica, Michael and Adam and of course our dog Ellbee. We live in Los Gatos and enjoy visiting our home in Lake Almanor, fishing, brewing beer, reading and relaxing.
