Remodel reminiscent of Japanese architecture and interiors

Kitchen and Bathroom Remodel designed and built by Remodel West San Jose General Contractor.

Nestled into the Almaden Valley of San Jose California is a common 1960’s area tract home that’s no more. In its place, a home reminiscent of a Japanese architecture and interiors. As a seasoned remodeler our client had a vision for their home which the design and construction crew of RemodelWest brought to a reality. This comprehensive overhaul of this home involved many details and innovative ideas also involving the expansion of the home.
Within the RemodelWest umbrella of design professionals we could deliver both architectural and interior design involving expansion of the entry, addition of Dining Room and re-planning of the floor plan. These solutions enabled us to add a powder room, indoor laundry, large open kitchen, walk in pantry and to open the main kitchen/dining area to the outdoors.
The walnut wood cabinetry in a contemporary style acted as the primary driver of the interior design. Designed by RemodelWest and constructed by Cottonwood Mill of Salt Lake City Utah this cabinetry is horizontal grain matched walnut veneer with solid vertical stiles and solid dovetail walnut drawers. Subtle but special details on this cabinetry is how we specified the finished corners at the ends which can be seen in the close-up image of the pantry cabinet.
The countertops are made up of three materials. Caesartone quartz in Wild Rice and Ginger along Spekva Wenge wood accent counter. The backsplash behind the range is a new material by Dekton in the Makai Wild collection. The Dekton backsplash material is two slabs seamed behind the cooktop which was a difficult endeavor to align the pattern. Further challenging are the floating shelves to each side of the hood. Here we had to drill holes through the Dekton to support the shelves. Notice the powder bath counter top. Our project manager and master craftsman Jim Welch took a reclaimed piece of Red Willow Wood provided by our client and crafted a countertop, apron and mirror details.
Sub Zero-Wolf played an important role in this kitchen with the BI model refrigerator and the commercial style cooktop and built in ovens. Another alternative design detail is to locate the double ovens side by side rather than the common over under application. Here we have elevated the side by side ovens for easy access and an elevated counter surface for more ergonomic utilization. It’s almost impossible to feel the impact of how we transformed this home unless you were there every day. This project represents our core type of project for clientele desiring a quality project and experience. In this case we designed this project for over 6 months and took close to eight months to complete.
